About the Artist
Artist’s Statement
I paint with glazes and transparent surfaces in oil and acrylic, as well as interactive finishes such as gold leaf and metallic pigments on canvas or wood panels. My focus is with elemental shapes and color, as well as the pure physicality of paint. I use spheres and other geometric forms that suggest planetary or celestial objects that could be micro or macro elements, like sub-atomic particles or radiating orbs. I describe forms that are disappearing, emerging, and traveling, which evoke the transitional nature of the matter and energy around us. I use color as an intuitive and emotional element as well as a response to the intense and dramatic light of the Maine landscape outside my window. I used to paint landscapes—now I am still painting nature, but the lens has been adjusted.
The images represent my effort to express my own present-moment experience, and my perception that there is an elemental and cosmic structure that supports us. This intrinsic support system, whether it is physical, energetic or spiritual, offers to us a sense of solace and shelter in a world that at times feels both uncertain and filled with wonder.
